Oostkamp, BE/Eckernförde, GE – On August 19th, #Bundeswehr Technical Test Centers WTD81 and WTD71 successfully finished the first sea trials of Advionics’ non-rotating #IFF antenna system solution based on L-IESA technology from the Intersoft Electronics Group.

During a 14 day transit to Norway, Germany’s test ship “Helmsand” delivered terabytes of excellent #IFF test results, proving monopulse position accuracy during at-sea conditions when using an off-the-shelf US DoD AIMS certified third-party #IFF interrogator. The sea trials complete a three-phase R&D study project between WTD 81 and Advionics NV with extremely valuable results for coming projects with the #GermanNavy, aimed at replacing mechanically rotating #IFF antennas with 3D electronically scanning antennas for ADS-B, Mode S, and #IFF Mode 5 systems. This unique antenna system solution improves the #IFF volume coverage by electronically stabilizing (AESA) the #IFF interrogator antenna, while freeing the ship’s top-mast position for other sensors. In addition, it includes #IFF transponder and Link-16 antenna functionality.
